Addressing

The Addressing Department is responsible for supplying residents and businesses with a physical E-911 address. The main purpose for this address is to provide emergency responders with a more detailed address for quicker response times, in the event of an emergency. In addition, the address is used for deliveries by the USPS (United States Postal Service), UPS, FedEx, etc.

The Addressing Department is responsible for maintaining county addresses and road names. Using FGDC (United States Thoroughfare Landmark and Postal Address Data Standard), in conjunction with NENA Standards (National Emergency Number Association Standards), an address is assigned and/or a road name is created. Using these standards as a guide, every structure in Bulloch County that has a power source is assigned an official address. A permit is required prior to assigning a new address. Information regarding the location of the driveway and structures on the property is needed in order to assign the address. Vacant lots are not assigned an address until an application for a building permit has been made.

Fees: Each new address assigned will be assessed a fee: $10 per unit for a single-family dwelling and $11 per unit for multi-family, Subdivisions, etc. Cash or checks are accepted as payment. Checks should be made out to the Bulloch County Tax Assessors.

Has your address been changed by the Addressing Department? The Department is frequently reviewing Bulloch County as a whole for any addressing errors. As errors are found, efforts are made to correct them as quickly as possible to avoid any confusion when sending emergency responders or delivering parcels of mail to your residence. If you receive a change of address notice, you have 30 days to post the new number on the structure in question. You then have up to 1 year to change over all of your mail (e.g., bills, voters registration, utilities, subscriptions, etc.). After the year is up, the old address will be removed from the system.

How and where to post your new address? Residential structures must use a minimum of 3 inch numbers and Commercial / Business / Retail must use a minimum of 4 inch numbers. Address numbers must contrast with their background and be clearly visible from the road during the day and at night. If the structure in question is not clearly visible from the road, the numbers must be posted by the road and on the structure.
