The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association (GRPA) First District held its annual Awards Banquet last week in Statesboro. Among those in attendance receiving awards was the Statesboro Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department (SBCPRD) and its staff.
There were several staff that received Service Awards for their service and dedication to the department. Among those were: Steve Brown, 10 years; Dadrian Cosby, 10 years; Broni Gainous, 10 years; Cannon Petitjean, 10 years; Ronald Smith, 15 years; Mitch Stafford, 15 years; and Sherrie Zeigler, 25 years.
With a strong athletic staff comes a strong sense of sportsmanship, which is why SBCPRD was awarded the Sportsmanship of the Year Award for Class A/B departments.
No parks and recreation department could exist successfully without a strong staff. New to the Awards listing this year was the Facilities and Grounds Award, which was awarded to SBCPRD Aquatic Maintenance Supervisor, Bill Smith. Smith has been with SBCPRD and Splash in the Boro for over three years and has proven himself worthy of the award.
Chris Atkinson, still considered a “rookie” on the SBCPRD team, was awarded the Leadership Award. This award is given to a staff member who has continually gone “above and beyond” in creating and supervising their respective programs. Chris supervises soccer, basketball and golf at SBCPRD.
With such strong staff, it was no surprise when SBCPRD was also named the GRPA First District Agency of the Year for agencies that serve a population of 50,001 – 80,000 people.
“Congratulations to Statesboro-Bulloch Parks and Recreation. SBCPRD is a true example of a public service organization that is committed to providing the best service possible to its community,” says GRPA First District Commissioner Randy Spivey.
