As of 2:30 PM the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department has closed the following road segments south of the City of Statesboro until further notice. All traffic should re-route accordingly. Please do not travel unless absolutely necessary. Though open, many other road segments and bridges are coated with ice.
Burkhalter Road between Harville Road the roundabout at Langston Chapel.
The roundabout at Burkhalter Road and Langston Chapel has also been closed.
Langston Chapel Road between the Roundabout and Lanier Drive.
Lanier Drive between Langston Chapel Road and the Veterans Memorial Parkway.
Current Conditions as of 2:45 PM:
Areas of Bulloch County have seen accumulations of 1-3 inches of snow. Temperatures in the 20’s have allowed for accumulations of ice and snow on roadways and bridges. Public works crews and law enforcement continue to work to identify trouble areas. Bulloch 911 has taken over 25 vehicle collision calls countywide, some with injuries since 6:00 AM this morning.
Forecasted Conditions through Thursday Night:
Storm conditions may improve this afternoon as the snow and ice exit the area, but temperatures well below freezing will keep moisture on roadways which will be very slick and icy throughout the evening and into tomorrow. Any melting of ice on roadways during the daylight hours on Thursday will refreeze as temperatures drop below freezing Thursday night. Sidewalks may be unsafe to walk on. Power outages may occur as the wind picks up later today and limbs and power lines with accumulations of ice begin to possibility come down.
