If your business is subject to collecting sales and use tax please be reminded that effective October 1, 2018 the sales tax rate in Bulloch County has increased from 7% up to 8%. The reason for this increase is the result of the passage of a 1% Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax voter referendum in May 2018.
Even though this is a local county tax, the Georgia Department of Revenue (GDOR) administers local collections and holds registered businesses who collect and report sales and use taxes responsible for compliance. The notice of rate changes is posted publicly on the GDOR web site (see link below) prior to the beginning of each quarter prior to the first day of January, April, July and December. All applicable businesses should begin to collect the tax immediately to avoid unnecessary penalties or audits by the state.
If you have questions about your collections or returns, please contact the Georgia Department of Revenue Regional office in Savannah at 912-748-5199.
