4 Types of Mental Illness are listed below.  However, there are many types.

 

Major Depressive Disorder (5 or more of the following symptoms):

  • Depressed mood
  • Lack of interest or pleasure in activities
  • Significant weight loss
  • Insomnia or Hypersomnia
  • Psychomotor Agitation or Retardation
  • Fatigue or Loss of Energy
  • Feelings of Worthlessness
  • Excessive or Inappropriate Guilt
  • Lack of Ability to Think or Concentrate or Indecisiveness
  • Recurring Thoughts of Death or Suicide Attempt

Bipolar Disorder

  • Manic/Hypomanic Episode (Abnormal Elevated or Irritable Mood)
  • Major Depressive Episode

Schizophrenia

  • Delusions
  • Hallucinations
  • Disorganized Thinking or Speech
  • Abnormal Motor Behavior
  • Negative Symptoms (Reduced Expression of Emotions)
  • Reduction in Activities
  • Other Negative Symptoms: Decreased Ability to Experience Pleasure
  • Lack of Interest in Social Interaction

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • A mental health condition triggered by a terrifying event
  • Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, uncontrollable thoughts about the event
