1. License plates are property of the vehicle owner.
2. If a seller has no intention of replacing a vehicle that was sold, the license plate should be turned in to the Tax Commissioners Office for registration cancellation purposes. A receipt will print that may be submitted to the insurance company so that insurance can be cancelled on the original vehicle.
3. The first owner name on the new vehicle and first owner name on the old vehicle must match for tag to be transferable. There is a fee of $5.00 to transfer a tag from one vehicle to another.
4. A license plate must be registered to the new vehicle before it can be displayed.
